The Beacon has an ongoing need for toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes and combs. In addition, they have requests for Bibles and books. All of these items are available at the Dollar Tree stores.
Please leave your donation in the box in the narthex. The staff at the Beacon has expressed their gratitude for St. Catherine’s continuing support.
THE BEACON is a comprehensive ministry providing services that restore dignity, self-respect, and hope to Houston’s underserved and homeless. Since opening our doors in 2007, we’ve grown from serving 80 clients per day to serving 600-800 clients daily. Our success is driven through our four core programs: The Beacon Day Center, Cathedral Clinic at The Beacon, Brigid’s Hope at The Beacon, and Cathedral Justice Project at The Beacon. These four programs come together under one roof to provide meals, showers, laundry service, case management, medical and psychiatric care, pro bono legal services and pastoral care.
The Beacon Day Center provides hot meals, private shower and lavatory facilities, laundry services and case management to Houston’s underserved and homeless population.
The Day Center opened in 2007, and, since then, the program has seen tremendous growth. We now serve over 600 clients daily.
In 2013, we celebrated:
114,835 client visits
95,005 hot meals
15,594 hot showers
20,748 loads of laundry washed and folded
Case Management, Pastoral Care, and Counseling are integral aspects of The Beacon Day Center. These services help clients access the resources necessary to begin the journey towards self-sufficiency. Full-time case managers and volunteers assist clients with transportation issues, housing assistance, employment assistance, counseling, crisis intervention and referrals to other supportive services.
In 2013, we saw:
444 unduplicated clients receive case management
1,044 unduplicated clients receive referral services
The Beacon Day Center is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
