Welcome to the Episcopal Church—a community of faith that seeks to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The Episcopal Church is the Province of the Anglican Communion in the United States, Honduras, Taiwan, Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, the British Virgin Islands and parts of Europe. As of 2010, it is a church of 2,057,292 baptized members and is the fourteenth largest Christian denomination in the US. In keeping with Anglican tradition and theology, the Episcopal Church considers itself “Protestant, yet Catholic.” We hope you will join us!
The Basics of the Episcopal Church Beliefs
- The Holy Scriptures are the inspired word of God and that they contain all things necessary for salvation.
- Sin is the seeking of our own will instead of the will of God, thus distorting our relationship with God, with other people, and with all creation.
- Jesus is the only perfect image of the Father; he shows us the nature of God.
- By his obedience, even suffering and death, Jesus made the offering that we could not make; in him we are freed from the power of sin and reconciled by God. By his resurrection, Jesus overcame death and opened for us the way of eternal life.
- The mission of the church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.
- Our assurance as Christians is that nothing, not even death, shall separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion every week. Your denominational affiliation does not matter. We believe the altar belongs to God, not to the church.
